Cleaning Silver Jewellery with Tin foil, Baking Soda, Hot Water

A simple way to give your sterling silver jewellery a sparkling touch is to give them a baking soda ‘dip’. This works well even on tarnished pieces. Now you favourite silver rings, earrings, bracelets and necklaces can have a refreshing sparkling facelift with ease.

To prepare the Baking Soda ‘Dip, follow these steps:

1.    Line an appropriate size bowl or bucket with tinfoil, facing the shiny side outwards;

2.    Place your silver jewellery into the foil-lined container;

3.    Pour in enough hot water to cover the silver pieces;

4.    Add enough baking soda to the water until it begins to fizz;

5.    Allow the silver to soak for about half an hour

6.    Remove your silver jewellery from the water;

7.    Rinse;

8.    Dry;

9.    Enjoy.

1.    Take care not to place your silver jewellery on stainless steel as it damages silver.

2.    Don't use rubber gloves when you wash or polish your silver because they emit sulphurs!
